Addressing New Standards with New Resources: Tribal Sovereignty
The revised Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies address the concepts of American Indian identity and sovereignty over many grade levels and subjects. To better educate our students regarding the history and contemporary issues related to tribal sovereignty and the rights of indigenous peoples, the Oklahoma Council for Social Studies has created many new resources, ready to use by classroom teachers. Enjoy these powerpoint presentations, primary source documents and lesson ideas. Be sure to check back occasionally for updates and new resources, too.
Geography of the USA: Grade 4 Teaching Resources from OCSS
The NEW Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies have clarified expectations for 4th graders, focusing on the physical and human geography of our country through exciting and challenging learning objectives closely aligned to the National Geographic Standards, as published in Geography For Life. The Oklahoma Council for Social Studies has prepared and shared multiple teaching resources correlated to the new standards and ready for classroom use. You'll find presentations, activities, student readings, maps, and more- all organized according to the major physical regions of our nation. Inquiry Design Model Lessons (sampler)
Check out these examples of classroom-ready inquiry-based lessons, provided through a project with our partnering organization, the National Council for Social Studies, and the C3 Social Studies Frameworks Group. Theses samples correlate with the new Oklahoma Academic Standards, revised in 2019, and will enhance student-centered learning in any classroom.
